Laura Celesti-Grapow et al.

Summary: This study investigated the distribution and spread of invasive plants in cultural heritage sites, focusing on woody species which pose the greatest threat to monument conservation due to their root systems. The findings showed a decrease in native flora diversity and an increase in non-native, larger, and more damaging species, particularly ornamental wind- or bird-dispersed trees. The most widespread and damaging of these species is Ailanthus altissima, highlighting plant invasion as a growing challenge for heritage site conservation.
