Does Environmental Regulation Promote Industrial Green Technology Progress? Empirical Evidence from China with a Heterogeneity Analysis

Yanli Ji et al.

Summary: This study empirically investigates the impact of different types of environmental regulation on industrial green technology progress in China. The results show that the effects of environmental regulation on green technology progress vary significantly, with autonomous regulation playing a positive role and command-based regulation having no direct significant impact. Additionally, there may be a weak interaction among different types of environmental regulation.

Implementation of enterprises' green technology innovation under market-based environmental regulation: An evolutionary game approach

Mengyuan Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the decision-making behavior and influencing factors of heterogenous enterprises and banks under market-based environmental regulation policies. The results show that a scenario with greater subsidy to enterprises than to banks leads to a better situation; penalty has a more significant influence on enterprises compared to subsidies, and enterprises rely more on subsidies for independent R&D; when the price gap between different levels of technology increases, enterprises tend to continuously invest in green R&D but it may restrain technology introduction behavior.

An Evolutionary Game Model Between Governments and Manufacturers Considering Carbon Taxes, Subsidies, and Consumers' Low-Carbon Preference

Zhi-Hua Hu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the interactions among manufacturers, consumers, and governments regarding the adoption of low-carbon production technologies through an evolutionary game model of static and dynamic carbon taxes and subsidies. The findings revealed that dynamic strategies outperformed static ones in influencing manufacturers' decision-making. Additionally, the consumers' preference for low-carbon had a significant impact on manufacturers' decisions, showing the importance of coordination within the supply chain for low-carbon strategies.

An optimal combination of emissions tax and green innovation subsidies for polluting oligopolies

Yongxi Yi et al.

Summary: This paper develops a Stackelberg differential game model between a regulator and a polluting oligopoly to study the impact of joint tax-subsidy policies on green innovation. The results suggest that joint tax-subsidy policy can increase social welfare and investment levels in green innovation, while learning-by-doing in green innovation can improve environmental quality and social welfare.

How to motivate the producers' green innovation in WEEE recycling in China? - An analysis based on evolutionary game theory

Xiaomin Zhao et al.

Summary: In order to regulate the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), the Chinese government has implemented a fund policy, which has encountered difficulties. The Fund Relief Policy has been found to incentivize producers' green innovation behavior and improve the profitability of recyclers.

The Green-Innovation-Inducing Effect of a Unit Progressive Carbon Tax

Xiao Yu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a carbon tax design that links carbon taxes with low-carbon technology of enterprises to encourage green innovation and mitigate global warming. The research found that a unit progressive carbon tax is effective in promoting green innovation by encouraging enterprises to participate, with a diminishing effect of increasing tax rates.

Environmental regulations in private and mixed duopolies: Taxes on emissions versus green R&D subsidies

Sang-Ho Lee et al.

Summary: This article compares the effects of green R&D subsidies and emissions taxes in private and mixed-duopoly markets based on R&D spillovers. A green R&D subsidy is better than an emissions tax in the presence of efficient green R&D, and the optimal policy choice depends on R&D efficiency and spillovers. When green R&D is efficient, an R&D subsidy is preferred, but privatization is not desirable for society.

Designing an effective climate-policy mix: accounting for instrument synergy

J. van den Bergh et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of interactions between different climate policy instruments on overall emissions reduction, finding negative, zero or positive synergies. By formulating climate policy packages, negative effects are avoided and positive synergies are utilized. It is highlighted that alignment and harmonization of national policies in the international climate policy context may be essential for a politically feasible path to achieve global emission targets. The most promising packages involve combining innovation support and information provision with either a carbon tax and adoption subsidy, or with a carbon market.
