Biomass derived nitrogen and sulfur co-doped porous carbons for efficient CO2 adsorption

Changdan Ma et al.

Summary: Novel nitrogen and sulfur co-doped porous carbons were synthesized by thiourea modification of carbonized hazelnut shell followed by KOH activation in this study. The resulting sorbents exhibited high CO2 uptake, excellent reversibility, fast adsorption kinetics, moderate heat of adsorption, good CO2/N-2 selectivity, and high dynamic CO2 capture capacity, making them promising for actual CO2 capture applications.

Colloidal activated carbon as a highly efficient bifunctional catalyst for phenol degradation

Ardie Septian et al.

Summary: The colloidal activated carbon (CAC) prepared by a simple pulverization technique showed high efficiency in persulfate (PS) activation for phenol removal. The downsizing of particle size from activated carbon (AC) to CAC played a critical role in the reaction mechanism by leading to the formation of predominant superoxide radicals (O-2(center dot-)) in the PS/CAC system.

Zhen Li et al.

Summary: Different types of straw were used to prepare activated carbon, with millet straw showing superior properties. The preparation process of millet straw activated carbon was optimized using response surface methodology, resulting in high adsorption capacities for toluene and ethyl acetate. Recyclability testing showed that millet straw activated carbon maintained stable adsorption capacity throughout multiple cycles, indicating its potential for industrial application as a volatile organic compound adsorbent.

Durian husk wastes as low-cost adsorbent for physical pollutants removal: groundwater supply

C. M. Payus et al.

Summary: This study investigates the potential of utilizing durian husk as an adsorbent to improve water quality, particularly in reducing water hardness, electrical conductivity, and total dissolved solids. Results show that the removal efficiency of hardness concentrations by durian husk decreases significantly with dosage and settling time, while the removal efficiency for TDS and EC concentrations does not show the same trend. The novelty of this study lies in its use of on-site samples in the field, with lower initial concentrations compared to previous lab-scale studies.
