Ultra-low frequency vibration control of urban rail transit: the general quasi-zero-stiffness vibration isolator

Liuchong Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposed a general quasi-zero-stiffness vibration isolator to enhance the vibration control capability of floating slab tracks at low frequencies. Results showed that the isolator effectively reduced force transmissibility at low frequencies. Compared to conventional linear steel spring vibration isolators, the proposed isolator significantly improved vibration reduction performance at ultra-low frequencies without impacting driving stability or safety.

Crushing behaviors of buckling-oriented hexagonal lattice structures

Jianhua Dong et al.

Summary: The study focused on buckling-oriented hexagonal lattice structures (BOHLS) made of AISI 316 L for energy absorption in engineering. Quasi-static compression experiments and numerical investigations were conducted to compare the performance of BOHLS and hexagonal lattice structure (HLS) in different compression directions. The results showed that BOHLS had better performance in terms of specific energy absorption and mean crushing force under quasi-static in-plane compression, while HLS outperformed BOHLS in quasi-static out-of-plane compression.

3D-printed bio-inspired zero Poisson's ratio graded metamaterials with high energy absorption performance

Ramin Hamzehei et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel type of two-dimensional graded metamaterials with zero Poisson's ratio for energy absorption applications. Inspired by the 2D image of a DNA molecule, these metamaterials are designed with re-entrant unit cells that result in a zero Poisson's ratio behavior. The energy absorption capacity of the metamaterials is enhanced by incorporating slots and horizontal beams, taking inspiration from the DNA molecule's base pairs.

Effects of different configurations and gradients on compression responses of gradient honeycombs via selective laser melting

Yunfeng Wei et al.

Summary: The study found that small wall thickness of honeycomb components caused pore defects and reduced material density. Different configurations and gradients significantly affected the compression behavior of gradient honeycombs. The symmetric positive gradient (SP) configuration showed the most excellent compression performance.

In vitro static and dynamic cell culture study of novel bone scaffolds based on 3D-printed PLA and cell-laden alginate hydrogel

Reza Noroozi et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to design and fabricate a novel composite scaffold using 3D-printed polylactic acid-based triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMSs) and cell-laden alginate hydrogel. The scaffold improved the mechanical properties and pore size suitability for bone regeneration applications. The study used an implicit function and fused deposition modeling to generate and print the TPMS scaffolds. Micro computed tomography was employed to assess the microstructure, while compression tests were conducted to investigate the mechanical properties. The study also examined the biological response in terms of cell viability, proliferation, and attachment, and compared the results to scaffolds without alginate.

Ahmed H. Abdulaziz et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the propagation of acoustic emission waves in a glass fibre aluminium honeycomb sandwich panel, quantifying the through-thickness propagation of AE from one surface to the other. The results show that AE propagating in an HSP becomes bound in the outer plates due to complex interactions with the structural elements, providing insight into attenuation rates and characteristics for practical applications.
