Batch Fabrication of 50 μm-Thick Anisotropic Nd-Fe-B Micro-Magnets

Frederico O. Keller et al.

Summary: In this study, standard micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) fabrication techniques were used to batch fabricate out-of-plane textured Nd-Fe-B micro-magnets on Si substrates. The effects of substrate patterning and film thickness on the microstructures of the films were analyzed. The magnetic properties of the micro-magnets were comparable to sintered Nd-Fe-B bulk magnets. Scanning Hall probe microscopy was used to characterize the stray magnetic field patterns produced by the topographically patterned films.

Tailoring the microstructure, magnetic properties and interaction mechanisms of Alnico-Ta alloys by magnetic field treatment

Sajjad Ur Rehman et al.

Summary: Reducing the spatial dimensions of spinodally decomposed phases and introducing Ta element can enhance the magnetic properties of Alnico alloys. The addition of Ta improved the intrinsic coercivity of the alloy while maintaining nearly unchanged remanence. Scanning electron microscopy confirmed the unique structure of rod-like Fe-Co rich phase embedded in the matrix phase and the suppression effect of gamma-phase at grain boundaries and triple junctions.

Automated Filling of Dry Micron-Sized Particles into Micro Mold Pattern within Planar Substrates for the Fabrication of Powder-Based 3D Microstructures

Cris Kostmann et al.

Summary: Powder-based techniques are increasingly used for fabricating microstructures on planar substrates, with dry powder being more beneficial for achieving smallest dimensions and highest filling factors. This paper introduces an automated technique for filling micro mold patterns with dry micron-sized particles, utilizing high- and low-frequency oscillations for particle mobilization. Rubber balls are used for dense packing, and the resulting micromagnets are created and investigated for their magnetic properties and inner structure. The novel automated technique is shown to outperform the existing manual method in significant aspects.
