Total Synthesis of Cochlearol B via Intramolecular [2+2] Photocycloaddition

Tomoya Mashiko et al.

Summary: In this study, the first total synthesis of cochlearol B, a meroterpenoid natural product with a unique pentacyclic structure, was described. Key steps including oxidative cyclization and subsequent intramolecular [2+2] photocycloaddition allowed efficient access to cochlearol B with a longest linear sequence of 16 steps and 9% overall yield. Single-crystal X-ray crystallographic analysis confirmed the stereochemistry of cochlearol B.

Fabrication of single-mode circular optofluidic waveguides in fused silica using femtosecond laser microfabrication

Zhengming Liu et al.

Summary: Single-mode circular optofluidic waveguides were fabricated on fused silica glass substrates using femtosecond laser-assisted chemical etching based on slit beam shaping. The fabrication process involved four steps, resulting in uniform circular microchannels with diameters around 10μm and lengths at the centimeter scale. Vacuum-assisted filling of liquid paraffin and decane mixture into the microchannel structure enabled the creation of a single-mode circular optofluidic waveguide embedded in glass.
