Mapping of the Quantitative Trait Loci and Candidate Genes Associated With Iron Efficiency in Maize

Jianqin Xu et al.

Summary: Iron (Fe) deficiency is a major stress in crop production. This study used maize inbred lines to investigate the physiological mechanism underlying Fe deficiency tolerance and identified several candidate genes associated with Fe deficiency tolerance. The findings provide insights into the response to Fe deficiency stress in maize.

Functional mutants of Azospirillum brasilense elicit beneficial physiological and metabolic responses in Zea mays contributing to increased host iron assimilation

A. B. Housh et al.

Summary: The study found that using beneficial microbes to promote iron uptake in maize can increase the plant's absorption of Fe2+/3+ and change the host's utilization of carbon resources. Among the mutants examined, HM053 had the greatest impact on host iron uptake by altering carbon resource allocation to aid in iron absorption and translocation.

Systematic analysis of differentially expressed ZmMYB genes related to drought stress in maize

Peng-Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: MYB transcription factors play important roles in hormone conduction signaling and response to abiotic stress. This study identified 54 differentially expressed ZmMYB genes and conducted comprehensive analyses, which showed that these genes were unevenly distributed on 10 chromosomes and mainly classified into eleven subgroups based on phylogenetic analysis. The mainly stress-related cis-elements were ABRE, ARE, MBS and DRE-core, and 8 core ZmMYB genes were identified by co-expression network. The qRT-PCR results indicated that the 8 ZmMYB genes exhibited different expression levels under different abiotic stresses.
