Development of KASP Markers and Identification of a QTL Underlying Powdery Mildew Resistance in Melon (Cucumis melo L.) by Bulked Segregant Analysis and RNA-Seq

Yanyan Cao et al.

Summary: A novel QTL named qCmPMR-12 for powdery mildew resistance in melon was identified on chromosome 12, ranging from 22.0 Mb to 22.9 Mb. The candidate gene MELO3C002434 encoding an ankyrin repeat-containing protein was suggested to be associated with resistance to PM. Furthermore, 15 polymorphic SNPs were successfully converted to KASP markers with high significance (P < 0.0001).

Genome-Wide Association Study of Brown Rot (Monilinia spp.) Tolerance in Peach

Wanfang Fu et al.

Summary: Brown rot, caused by Monilinia spp., is a significant disease on stone fruit worldwide, leading to severe yield loss. While some tolerance has been reported in peach and almond, genetic resistance in peach cultivars is still lacking. This study identified several genomic regions associated with brown rot tolerance in peach, providing valuable insights for further research and DNA-assisted breeding.

Chromosome-level genome assemblies of five Prunus species and genome-wide association studies for key agronomic traits in peach

Qiuping Tan et al.

Summary: This study presents de novo genome assemblies for five Prunus species and identifies associations between key agricultural traits and specific genetic loci, such as the OVATE transcription factor, NAC transcription factor, and microRNA172d. The findings suggest the importance of parallel evolution in the diversification of commercially important domesticated species. These genomic resources will aid in functional genomics, evolutionary research, and agronomic improvement. Structural variant-based GWASs can be used across various plant species, animals, and humans for precise identification of candidate genes and genetic architecture components.

Function analysis of a cotton R2R3 MYB transcription factor GhMYB3 in regulating plant trichome development

X. Shangguan et al.

Summary: The GhMYB3 gene was identified through bioinformatic analysis and introduced into Arabidopsis and cotton to study its role in fiber development. The results suggest that GhMYB3 plays a crucial role in regulating trichome development, and overexpression of this gene in cotton leads to minor increases in fiber length and lint percentage, potentially by activating downstream fiber-related genes.

Genome-wide identification of the tea plant bHLH transcription factor family and discovery of candidate regulators of trichome formation

Renjian Liu et al.

Summary: A total of 134 CsbHLH proteins were identified, some of which may be associated with trichome formation. The expression patterns of certain CsbHLH proteins are similar to the distribution of trichomes in tea plants. CsbHLH024 and CsbHLH133 possess transcriptional activation ability and can interact with CsTTG1, a regulator of trichome formation.
