ABA regulation of root growth during soil drying and recovery can involve auxin response

Qian Zhang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that ABA plays a crucial role in regulating root growth of tomato plants under drought stress. Wild-type plants showed increased primary root growth during moderate drying, maintained more lateral roots and longer primary and total root length under severe drying, and produced more roots after re-watering. RNA-Seq analysis indicated different expression patterns of auxin-related genes in roots between wild-type and ABA-deficient plants under drying or re-watering conditions, suggesting ABA regulation of tomato root growth may involve auxin response.

Adaptation of winter wheat varieties and irrigation patterns under future climate change conditions in Northern China

Xiaowen Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the response of winter wheat in Northern China to climate change, finding that warming temperatures shorten the growth period of winter wheat and precipitation changes affect evapotranspiration rates. Adjusting varieties and irrigation practices can improve wheat yield and water productivity under future climate conditions.

The physiological response of winter wheat under short-term drought conditions and the sensitivity of different indices to soil water changes

Qing Mu et al.

Summary: Studying the physiological responses of winter wheat to drought can help in utilizing biological water-saving technologies and adjusting irrigation strategies to improve water use efficiency. The sensitivity of wheat leaf physiological indicators, particularly the activity of SOD and content of Pro, to changes in soil moisture was highlighted as important for monitoring irrigation effects and adjusting strategies.

TMK4 receptor kinase negatively modulates ABA signaling by phosphorylating ABI2 and enhancing its activity

Lan Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a previously unknown mechanism was identified where a plasma membrane protein kinase positively regulates ABI2. Further analysis revealed that TMK4 phosphorylates ABI2 to enhance its activity in the ABA signaling pathway. The phosphorylation of ABI2 by TMK4 was shown to complement the ABA hypersensitive phenotype.

Expression of Arabidopsis Ornithine Aminotransferase (AtOAT) encoded gene enhances multiple abiotic stress tolerances in wheat

Alia Anwar et al.

Summary: The ectopic expression of Arabidopsis AtOAT gene in wheat enhanced its drought and salt tolerances by increasing proline content and peroxidase activity, showing partial tolerance to heat stress as well. The up-regulation of proline biosynthesis associated genes and down-regulation of proline catabolic gene in transgenic wheat plants under stress conditions contributed to the enhanced abiotic tolerance via modifying proline biosynthesis.

Transcriptome Analysis of Tolerant and Susceptible Maize Genotypes Reveals Novel Insights about the Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Drought Responses in Leaves

Joram Kiriga Waititu et al.

Summary: This study compared the transcriptome and physiological responses of drought-tolerant and susceptible maize inbred lines at the seedling stage, revealing higher water content and lower electrolyte leakage and malondialdehyde levels in the tolerant line. RNA-seq analysis identified key drought-responsive genes related to cytoskeleton, photosynthesis, and other pathways. The findings provide a comprehensive understanding of the molecular mechanisms mediating drought stress tolerance in maize seedlings.
