CSN improves seed vigor of aged sunflower seeds by regulating the fatty acid, glycometabolism, and abscisic acid metabolism

Yutao Huang et al.

Summary: The study found that compound sodium nitrophenolate (CSN) significantly increased the germination rate and seedling emergence rate of aged sunflower seeds. Biochemical analysis showed that CSN treatment significantly enhanced the sucrose and fructose contents in aged sunflower seeds during early germination period. Enzyme activity analysis revealed that CSN treatment remarkably up-regulated the activities of several critical enzymes related to triacylglycerol hydrolysis.

Abiotic Stress and Reactive Oxygen Species: Generation, Signaling, and Defense Mechanisms

Swati Sachdev et al.

Summary: Climate change has devastating effects on plants, leading to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as byproducts of oxygen consumption. While excessive ROS can disrupt cellular homeostasis, moderate levels can activate growth and stress responses in plants, though the exact mechanisms are not fully understood. Advancements in modern techniques like molecular priming and crop modeling offer potential solutions for managing ROS levels in plants under stress.

Grafting Enhances Pepper Water Stress Tolerance by Improving Photosynthesis and Antioxidant Defense Systems

Yaiza Gara Padilla et al.

Summary: Grafted peppers onto different rootstocks showed better growth and photosynthesis efficiency under water stress, with higher antioxidant capacity. The study revealed a positive correlation between CO2 uptake rate and ascorbic acid/proline concentration, indicating a more effective physiological-antioxidant pathway in tolerant grafted plants.

Nitric Oxide Regulates Plant Growth, Physiology, Antioxidant Defense, and Ion Homeostasis to Confer Salt Tolerance in the Mangrove Species, Kandelia obovata

Mirza Hasanuzzaman et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that under salt stress, treatment with SNP can increase endogenous NO levels, reduce ion toxicity, and improve nutrient balance and proline levels in plants, promoting stress recovery. Treatment with Hb and L-NAME, however, reverses these beneficial effects and exacerbates salt damage.

High Drying Temperature Accelerates Sunflower Seed Deterioration by Regulating the Fatty Acid Metabolism, Glycometabolism, and Abscisic Acid/Gibberellin Balance

Yutao Huang et al.

Summary: The drying temperature of sunflower seeds significantly affects seed vigor and deterioration during storage. A temperature of 40 degrees Celsius is safe for sunflower seeds, but higher drying temperatures reduce seed vigor by regulating metabolism and balance. High drying temperatures increase activities that lead to over-accumulation of harmful substances and inhibit crucial enzyme activities during germination.

Silicon Improves the Redox Homeostasis to Alleviate Glyphosate Toxicity in Tomato Plants-Are Nanomaterials Relevant?

Cristiano Soares et al.

Summary: The foliar application of silicon, either as bulk or nano forms, was found to enhance Solanum lycopersicum L. tolerance to glyphosate by reducing oxidative stress and upregulating antioxidant enzymes. Both sources of silicon showed potential in alleviating glyphosate-induced toxicity, with no significant differences in efficacy observed.
