Molecular and Functional Analysis of U-box E3 Ubiquitin Ligase Gene Family in Rice (Oryza sativa)

Me-Sun Kim et al.

Summary: This study identified the characteristics of 77 OsPUB genes in rice and conducted a systematic and comprehensive analysis including conserved domains, phylogenetic relationships, and gene structure. 16 OsPUB genes showed similar expression patterns in drought stress and blast infection, with numerous cis-acting elements in their promoter sequences suggesting involvement in complex regulatory networks. The results indicate that OsPUB genes have various functions in the responses of rice to abiotic and biotic stresses.

Functional Analysis of OsMED16 and OsMED25 in Response to Biotic and Abiotic Stresses in Rice

Huijuan Zhang et al.

Summary: The Mediator complex regulates RNA polymerase II-mediated transcription and is involved in multiple signaling pathways including response to biotic and abiotic stresses. Using VIGS, the functions of OsMED16 and OsMED25 in rice response to stress were studied, showing differential responses to Magnaporthe grisea, hormone treatment, and abiotic stress. BMV: OsMED16 and BMV: OsMED25 infiltration reduced resistance to M. grisea by regulating H2O2 accumulation and defense gene expression, while BMV: OsMED16 infiltration decreased cold tolerance by affecting MDA content and cold-responsive gene expression.

OsPUB41, a U-box E3 ubiquitin ligase, acts as a negative regulator of drought stress response in rice (Oryza Sativa L.)

Dong Hye Seo et al.

Summary: OsPUB41 plays a negative role in drought stress response in rice by mediating OsUBC25 and interacting with OsCLC6, indicating a potential substrate. The gene encodes a dual-localized cytosolic and nuclear U-box E3 ligase, specifically induced by dehydration and abscisic acid treatments. The core U-box motif of OsPUB41 possesses E3 ligase activity activated by OsUBC25, leading to enhanced drought tolerance without adverse effects on rice yield-related traits.
