Terpene synthases in cucumber (Cucumis sativus) and their contribution to herbivore-induced volatile terpenoid emission

Jun He et al.

Summary: Our study revealed the important roles of the TPS gene family in cucumber in response to different herbivores, with multiple CsTPS genes showing upregulation in leaves upon herbivory. The products generated by the expressed proteins matched the terpenoids recorded in the volatile blend released by herbivore-damaged leaves, providing detailed insights into the dynamics and fine-tuning of the emission of herbivore-induced plant volatiles in cucumber.

Genomic analyses of diverse wild and cultivated accessions provide insights into the evolutionary history of jujube

Mingxin Guo et al.

Summary: The Chinese jujube is an important perennial fruit tree crop with economic, ecological, and nutritional value. Through population genomic analysis, it was found that jujube's primary domestication center was in the Shanxi-Shaanxi area of China, before it spread into East and South China. Divergence events analysis suggested a divergence between Ziziphus acidojujuba and Ziziphus jujuba around 2.7 million years ago, indicating a possible long pre-domestication period. The study also identified genetic markers associated with seed-setting rate and fruit weight regulation in jujubes, providing insights into the genetic basis of jujube evolution and domestication.

Genetic diversity analysis of Chinese plum (Prunus salicina L.) based on whole-genome resequencing

Xiao Wei et al.

Summary: This study conducted whole-genome resequencing of 67 Chinese plum accessions to construct high-quality SNPs, revealing that the plum accessions could be classified into four groups based on their origin location. The southern cultivar group showed higher genetic diversity indices compared to the northern cultivar group, with gene flow detected from the southern cultivar group to the foreign cultivar group. The domestication center of origin of Chinese plum was concluded to be southwestern China, providing genetic variation features and population structure insights for breeders to improve Chinese plum varieties.

Extensive variation within the pan-genome of cultivated and wild sorghum

Yongfu Tao et al.

Summary: A study on the sorghum pan-genome sheds light on the genetic diversity and gene content variation within the sorghum primary gene pool. The research suggests that dispensable genes play a crucial role in sorghum adaptation, and reveals that genetic variation is influenced by recombination rate and transposable element content.
