A LysR Family Transcriptional Regulator Modulates Burkholderia cenocepacia Biofilm Formation and Protease Production

Kai Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated a new downstream regulator, Bcal3178, which controls biofilm formation and protease production in Burkholderia cenocepacia through modulation by AHL and BDSF QS systems. Bcal3178 regulates target gene expression by directly binding to promoter DNA regions, and it is directly controlled by the AHL system regulator CepR. These results unveil a novel molecular mechanism by which QS systems regulate target gene expression and biological functions in B. cenocepacia.

The predatory soil bacterium Lysobacter reprograms quorum sensing system to regulate antifungal antibiotic production in a cyclic-di-GMP-independent manner

Kaihuai Li et al.

Summary: The study reveals that RpfG protein in Lysobacter regulates the biosynthesis of an antifungal factor besides acting as a c-di-GMP phosphodiesterase, interacting with three HyTCS proteins. This provides new insights into the antifungal defense mechanism in soil bacteria.
