Summary: Recent population studies have advanced our understanding of how age shapes the gut microbiota. However, the actual role of age is confounded by complex environmental factors. This study used crab-eating macaques reared in captivity to investigate the age-dependent changes in their gut microbiota, finding that both the taxonomic diversity and network connectivity of the microbiota were age-dependent, with potential implications for healthy aging.

Dietary lysine restriction induces lipid accumulation in skeletal muscle through an increase in serum threonine levels in rats

Summary: This study found that low amino acid and low lysine diets result in lipid accumulation in muscle and adipose tissues of rats. In the low-Lys diet, serum lysine levels decreased while serum threonine levels significantly increased. Restricting threonine intake completely abolished TAG accumulation induced by the low-Lys diet in skeletal muscle.
