Geosmithia associated with hardwood-infesting bark and ambrosia beetles, with the description of three new species from Poland

Beata Strzalka et al.

Summary: This study investigated Geosmithia species associated with 18 bark and ambrosia beetle species in hardwood ecosystems in Poland. Through various identification methods, a total of 11 Geosmithia species were identified, including two new species. Bark beetles were found to be vectors of Geosmithia species, but none of the isolates induced disease symptoms under experimental conditions.

Biology and associated fungi of an emerging bark beetle pest, the sweetgum inscriber Acanthotomicus suncei (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

Lei Gao et al.

Summary: The sweetgum inscriber is a bark beetle pest that damages American and Chinese sweetgum trees in China, with a female-biased population. It has a long flight period and is sensitive to low temperatures. Associated fungi with the inscriber are not pathogenic to trees but may indirectly lead to tree mortality.

Estimating Potential Distribution of Sweetgum Pest Acanthotomicus suncei and Potential Economic Losses in Nursery Stock and Urban Areas in China

You Li et al.

Summary: American sweetgum has been introduced to China for over 60 years and plays a crucial role in urban afforestation. The local bark beetle pest, sweetgum inscriber, poses a significant threat to the American sweetgum. Based on field investigations, nurseries stocking American sweetgum may face substantial economic losses if the pest becomes established in the main market.
