Summary: This study examined the effects of prolonged head-down-tilt bed rest on cardiac function, with a focus on strain measurements. The results showed that changes in cardiac function, particularly in strain measurements, appeared to be functional rather than due to cardiac remodeling. Therefore, strain measurements may have limited utility in assessing the impact of physical inactivity or exercise interventions on cardiac function.

Summary: Aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV) is directly related to arterial stiffness. This prospective study evaluated the prognostic value of PWV in high-risk patients with suspected coronary artery disease and compared 3 different methods for assessing PWV. The study found that all 3 methods for determining PWV were able to predict cardiovascular events and mortality in patients with suspected coronary artery disease.
