Palliative and high-intensity end-of-life care in schizophrenia patients with lung cancer: results from a French national population-based study

Marie Viprey et al.

Summary: This study compared the end-of-life care received by schizophrenia patients with lung cancer to patients without severe mental disorders. Despite receiving more and earlier palliative care, schizophrenia patients were found to receive less high-intensity end-of-life care, such as chemotherapy and surgery, compared to controls. Further studies are needed to explore the optimal end-of-life care for patients with schizophrenia and lung cancer.

Influence of advance directives on reducing aggressive measures during end-of-life cancer care: A systematic review

Lillian Ponchio e Silva Marchi et al.

Summary: Although there is no consensus on the influence of advance directives (ADs) on reducing aggressive measures during end-of-life care involving cancer patients, some studies show that ADs can help reduce aggressive measures at the end of life for cancer patients. Challenges in drawing conclusions include heterogeneity in study design and results, as well as poor methodological quality.
