Comparative study of embedded functionalised MWCNTs and GO in Ultrafiltration (UF) PVC membrane: interaction mechanisms and performance

Amna J. Sadiq et al.

Summary: This work presents the development of PVC/F-MWCNT and PVC/GO membranes for improved removal of COD from petroleum wastewater. The study examines the properties and performance of these membranes and proposes interaction mechanisms between the membrane contents and water molecules. Results show the significant roles of F-MWCNT and GO in the membranes' structural morphology, with PVC/F-MWCNTs membrane exhibiting better performance in terms of mass flux and COD rejection.

Comparison of Polypropylene and Ceramic Microfiltration Membranes Applied for Separation of 1,3-PD Fermentation Broths and Saccharomyces cerevisiae Yeast Suspensions

Wirginia Tomczak et al.

Summary: This study compared the performance of ceramic and polymeric MF membranes for clarifying biological suspensions, finding that ceramic membranes produce higher quality permeate. However, all membranes were highly susceptible to fouling. Proper cleaning agents effectively cleaned ceramic membranes, while aggressive solutions degraded polypropylene membranes. These findings contribute to the understanding of using MF membranes for biological suspension clarification.

Summary: This research focused on the recovery of rice protein from rice starch production wastewater using ultrafiltration. The suitable operating pressure was determined at 6 and 8 bar, with the highest permeate flux observed at 6 bar and the peak recovery yield and purity of protein at 8 bar. Model analysis revealed the fouling mechanisms in ultrafiltration, indicating that UF is a potential technique for recovering rice protein with excellent agreement between experimental and model-simulated values.
