Effect of trickling filter on carbon and nitrogen removal in vertical flow treatment wetlands: A full-scale investigation

Kevin Maciejewski et al.

Summary: This article presents experimental data collected from 29 full-scale VF-TW systems, showing that the use of a Tricking Filter (TF) can improve TSS, COD, and BOD5 removal rates, and the combination of TF with the first-stage TW can enhance the nitrification efficiency. However, the contribution of the second-stage TW in denitrification is found to be limited, indicating a need for further research to enhance its performance.

An energy-efficient membrane rotating biological contactor for wastewater treatment

Sharjeel Waqas et al.

Summary: Membrane rotating biological contactor (MRBC) combines conventional rotating biological contactor (RBC) with membrane filtration, offering improved biological performance and inherent membrane fouling control through disk rotation. With a high hydraulic performance and lower energy consumption, MRBC shows promising potential for sustainable wastewater treatment.

Effects of pollution load and salinity shock on nitrogen removal and bacterial community in two-stage vertical flow constructed wetlands

Zifang Chi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that TS-VFCWs exhibit different COD and nitrogen removal efficiencies under varying pollution loads and salinity shocks. TS-VFCWs with iron ore/wood chips and manganese ore/wood chips show distinct microbial communities and denitrification performance during nitrogen removal processes.

Adsorption of Toxic Zinc by Functionalized Lignocellulose Derived from Waste Biomass: Kinetics, Isotherms and Thermodynamics

Jiatao Dang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the feasibility of removing toxic Zn(II) from aqueous solution using lignocellulose derived from fallen leaves. The sorption process is efficient, with a maximum sorption capacity of 46.49 mg/g onto carboxylated lignocellulose. Various experimental variables, such as sorbent type, dosage, solution pH, have significant impacts on the sorption efficiency, and the mechanism is primarily attributed to surface complexation.
