Quantifying the Contributions of Climate Change and Human Activities to Water Volume in Lake Qinghai, China

Guoqing Yang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the water volume change of Lake Qinghai and found that climate change had a dominant impact on the variation in water volume, while local human activities had minimal influence.

Quantifying both climate and land use/cover changes on runoff variation in Han River basin, China

Jing Tian et al.

Summary: This study develops an integrated framework to evaluate the impact of climate change and land use/cover change (LUCC) on future runoff evolution. The results indicate that both climate change and LUCC contribute to the intensification of future runoff, with the combined impact being larger than that of individual factors. The study provides useful adaptive strategies for future water resources planning and management.

Spatio-temporal assessing rainfall and dam impacts on surface runoff in the Sanaga river basin (transition tropical zone in central part of Cameroon)

Amidou Kpoumie et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the spatiotemporal impact of rainfall and different dams on the streamflow time series in the Sanaga River Basin in Cameroon. It finds that the decrease in rainfall in the 1970s and the construction of the Mbakaou dam in 1969 have had a significant effect on the water resources in the basin, with rainfall having a greater impact than dams. Despite an energy crisis, the basin still has significant hydraulic potential, leading to the construction of new dams.

Modeling the Impact of Climate and Land Use/Land Cover Change on Water Availability in an Inland Valley Catchment in Burkina Faso

Mouhamed Idrissou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impacts of climate and land use/land cover change on water resources in an inland valley catchment in Burkina Faso. The results show a large uncertainty in future runoff changes due to climate change, and land use change exacerbates the increase in total runoff. This study highlights the importance of considering land use change in assessing the impact of climate change.

Climatic and anthropogenic impacts on the decrease of sediment discharge to the Mediterranean coast from the largest river of Maghreb

Ali Hadour et al.

Summary: The study examines the decrease in sediment discharge to the Mediterranean Sea by the largest river in Algeria, the Wadi Cheliff, attributing factors such as climate and anthropogenic activities to the changes in sediment dynamics. Major findings indicate that dams have intercepted a significant portion of sediment input over the years, contributing more to the reduction than the decrease in rainfall.

Local climate change projections and impact on the surface hydrology in the Vea catchment, West Africa

Isaac Larbi et al.

Summary: The study found that in the Vea catchment in Northern Ghana, climate change is projected to increase annual mean temperature and actual evapotranspiration (ET), while decreasing surface runoff and water yield, indicating a trend towards a drier climate. This projected decrease in water yield necessitates better planning and management of water resources in the catchment.

Quantitative analysis of the impacts of climate and land-cover changes on urban flood runoffs: a case of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Philip Mzava et al.

Summary: The study found that over the past half-century, the risk of urban flooding in Dar es Salaam has increased, with climate change having a greater impact on peak flows than land-cover change. In the future, the combined effects of climate and land-cover changes are expected to lead to an increase in average peak flows, but the rate of increase will decrease compared to the past.

Contributions of Human Activities and Climatic Variability to Changes in River Rwizi Flows in Uganda, East Africa

Charles Onyutha et al.

Summary: This study utilized SWAT to analyze River Rwizi flows, finding that LULC changes and human activities impact rainfall-runoff generation, including contributions from LULC changes and water abstraction from the river. Climate variability, such as changes in rainfall and evapotranspiration, also played a significant role in river flow.
