Bubble vent localization for marine hydrocarbon seep surveys

Garrett A. Mitchell et al.

Summary: The commercial success of marine seep hunting exploration campaigns relies on acquiring high-quality data and accurately identifying seep sites. Modern multibeam echosounders provide an effective approach for characterizing seafloor seeps, but traditional mapping methods have limitations. By vertically integrating midwater multibeam amplitude samples, a quantitative overview of gas plume emission sites can be generated, improving seafloor interpretation.
