Above-Ground Biomass Estimation of Plantation with Complex Forest Stand Structure Using Multiple Features from Airborne Laser Scanning Point Cloud Data

Linghan Gao et al.

Summary: Accurately estimating above-ground biomass (AGB) in forests is crucial for monitoring forest resources and evaluating carbon sequestration capacity. This study utilized airborne laser scanner (ALS) technology to extract three-dimensional structure information in subtropical forests with complex tree species composition and structure, revealing the importance of tree height as a key factor influencing forest AGB. By extracting 63 point cloud features and employing various modeling methods, the research provided insights into the impact of different tree species on AGB estimation accuracy.

Summary: Invasive alien plants are a major threat to ecosystems and socio-economic systems. Mapping and monitoring of these plants are essential for resource allocation and management. Remote sensing technologies, such as WorldView-2 and SPOT-7 satellites, can be used to map plant species, with WV-2 imagery showing higher accuracy in urban areas for eucalypts tree mapping.

Combining simulated hyperspectral EnMAP and Landsat time series for forest aboveground biomass mapping

Sam Cooper et al.

Summary: This study successfully mapped forest AGB using EnMAP imagery and Landsat time series, with the two-date EnMAP model performing the best and outperforming the corresponding Landsat models. Combining the two datasets further improved AGB mapping efforts, demonstrating the synergies between spectral and temporal data sources can effectively enhance global forest AGB mapping.
