Estimation of rice plant potassium accumulation based on non-negative matrix factorization using hyperspectral reflectance

Jingshan Lu et al.

Summary: This study focused on extracting pure vegetation spectra using non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) from hyperspectral reflectance, establishing a model for estimating rice potassium accumulation (PKA). Results showed that NMF effectively extracted pure vegetation and water and soil spectra, enhancing vegetation spectral information. The partial least-squares regression (PLSR) model based on NMF-extracted vegetation spectra performed best for ground and UAV data, with improved accuracy in estimating rice PKA.

Rice nitrogen nutrition estimation with RGB images and machine learning methods

Peihua Shi et al.

Summary: The random forest regression models showed the highest accuracy for estimating DM, LAI, and NA in the validation dataset, followed by BPNN and SNR models. The BPNN models were found to be most susceptible to dataset splitting, with the highest standard deviation and interval range of ATPA among the three regression methods, while RF and SNR models were less affected by dataset splitting, producing consistently robust regression models. The ensemble algorithm of the RF model effectively prevented overfitting and demonstrated strong generalization performance, highlighting the potential of combining digital imagery with machine learning methods for crop N nutrition estimation.

Summary: To meet the challenges of global population growth and climate change, crop yields need to be improved sustainably. Genomics-assisted breeding is becoming popular for ensuring food security, highlighting the importance of linking phenotype and genotype relationships. While high-throughput genotyping is cost-effective, there is a need to enhance high-throughput crop phenotyping methods and data analytical capacities.

Estimating Agricultural Soil Moisture Content through UAV-Based Hyperspectral Images in the Arid Region

Xiangyu Ge et al.

Summary: Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based hyperspectral remote sensing is an important monitoring technology for soil moisture content (SMC) in agroecological systems in arid regions. In this study, UAV-based hyperspectral imaging data was collected from farmland near Fukang City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, and four estimation strategies were tested. The Fractional-Order Derivative (FOD) technology proved to effectively mine information, and strategy IV using FOD combined with the optimal multiband indices yielded the best estimates for SMC among the tested methods.
