Spatiotemporal air quality inference of low-cost sensor data: Evidence from multiple sensor testbeds

Jelle Hofman et al.

Summary: This study presents validation results of two machine-learning models for inferring spatiotemporal air quality using data-driven techniques. The models show comparable prediction performance and demonstrate the potential to achieve accurate results with lower resources and processing time.

A support vector machine model to forecast ground-level PM2.5in a highly populated city with a complex terrain

Caroline Mogollon-Sotelo et al.

Summary: Physical models are essential for pollutants in high latitudes but less accurate in the tropics. Nonlinear models with machine learning are now being developed for more accurate predictions in less time. A study using a support vector machine (SVM) in a city with complex topography shows high precision in forecasting ground-level PM2.5 concentrations and demonstrates the potential for use in other tropical cities.

The application of land use regression model to investigate spatiotemporal variations of PM2.5 in Guangzhou, China: Implications for the public health benefits of PM2.5 reduction

Yangzhi Mo et al.

Summary: The study investigated the spatiotemporal variation of PM2.5 in Guangzhou using land use regression (LUR) models, with traffic variables being identified as the most important contributors to PM2.5. The results showed that reducing vehicle emissions would be an effective way to decrease PM2.5 levels. Guangzhou, as the third largest city in China with PM2.5 concentrations meeting the CAAQS Grade II guideline, serves as a valuable case study for examining the health and economic benefits of further reducing PM2.5 levels.

Urban Air Pollution Mapping Using Fleet Vehicles as Mobile Monitors and Machine Learning

Bu Zhao et al.

Summary: This study equipped 260 electric vehicles in a ride-hailing fleet in Beijing with low-cost sensors to collect real-time data on PM2.5 concentrations and developed a decision tree model to infer the distribution of PM2.5 concentrations in Beijing. The model showed significant improvement compared to traditional stationary monitoring sites in terms of accuracy.
