Unpredicted Concentration-Dependent Sensory Properties of Pyrene-Containing NBN-Doped Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

Hang Xiao et al.

Summary: Pyrene molecules containing NBN-doped polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were synthesized through a simple and efficient intermolecular dehydration reaction. These compounds, including Pyrene-B (o-phenylenediamine) and Pyrene-B (1,8-diaminonaphthalene), exhibit varying luminescence properties. Pyrene-B (o-phenylenediamine) shows concentration-dependent luminescence and enhanced emission after grinding at solid state, while Pyrene-B (1,8-diaminonaphthalene) exhibits a turn-on type luminescence upon fluoride ion addition at lower concentration, as well as concentration-dependent stability.

Millisecond Time-scale Photoluminescence of B-N-doped Tetrathienonaphthalene with Borane/Amine Substituents

Chao-Jing Sun et al.

Summary: This study prepared a series of electron-donor and -acceptor-functionalized BN-doped polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and found that compounds with both donor and acceptor exhibit both local emission and charge-transfer emission in polar solvents, with the charge-transfer emission showing phosphorescence characteristics and a long lifetime. The lowering of the S-1 energy level of BN makes intersystem crossing favorable, and the dual-emission phenomenon of BN shows potential for ratiometric sensory materials.

Effect of homonuclear boron bonds in the adsorption of DNA nucleobases on boron nitride nanosheets

Alma Delia Ocotitla Munoz et al.

Summary: Quantum-mechanics calculations were performed within the density functional theory (DFT) scheme to analyze the interaction between DNA nucleobases and hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets. The results showed that pristine nanosheets exhibited a strong adsorption preference, while nanosheets with homonuclear boron bonds had even stronger interactions.
