In situ construction of S-scheme AgBr/BiOBr heterojunction with surface oxygen vacancy for boosting photocatalytic CO2 reduction with H2O

Zerui Miao et al.

Summary: In this study, an AgBr/BiOBr heterojunction with surface oxygen vacancies was synthesized using a simple chemical method, which showed significantly improved photoreduction rates of CO2 compared to pure BiOBr. The unique S-scheme band structure and oxygen vacancies were found to enhance the utilization of sunlight and increase the separation and transfer of photogenerated charge carriers, leading to efficient photocatalytic reduction of CO2.

Regulating the Electron Localization of Metallic Bismuth for Boosting CO2 Electroreduction

Dan Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, boron atoms are introduced to modify the local electronic structure of bismuth, enabling high activity and selectivity for the conversion of CO2 into formate. The effects of boron on the reaction mechanism and its concentration-dependent modulation of catalytic properties are revealed through experimental and computational investigations. This study provides in-depth mechanistic insights at the atomic level and offers an effective strategy for the rational design of highly active and selective electrocatalysts for efficient CO2 conversion.

An electroactive ion exchange hybrid film with collaboratively-driven ability for electrochemically-mediated selective extraction of chloride ions

Wangwang Ji et al.

Summary: In this study, a BiOCl/PPy-Cl hybrid film with core-shell nanosheet structure was successfully fabricated for selective extraction of chloride ions with superior conductivity and high adsorption capacity. The hybrid film displayed prominent selectivity and stable adsorption performance towards Cl- due to the outer PPy-Cl shell. The excellent Cl- uptake performance was attributed to the open interlayer structure of BiOCl and the collaboratively-driven force generated by the reversible electrochemical redox of BiOCl and PPy.

Oxygen vacancy enhanced visible light photocatalytic selective oxidation of benzylamine over ultrathin Pd/BiOCl nanosheets

Shuai Wei et al.

Summary: Two atomic layered BiOCl nanosheets with rich oxygen vacancies were constructed via surface Pd deposition, exhibiting high photocatalytic activity and selectivity. The ultrathin structure of the nanosheets induces the formation of surface oxygen vacancies, resulting in increased visible light absorption. In-situ experiments revealed that the oxygen vacancy sites contribute to the conversion of O-2 molecules from air to the surface. Furthermore, low-coordinated Bi and Pd sites play crucial roles in the formation of active species.
