Summary: A review of 38 studies found that the survival rates of 3rd-condyle PS TKA designs are comparable to post-cam PS TKAs, with average rates ranging from 96-98% at 5 years, 78-100% at 5-10 years, and 86-99% at > 10 years. The 3rd-condyle designs offer an alternative for younger and more active patients, with benefits such as a lowered point-of-contact and larger congruent contact area that reduce risks of loosening and component wear.

Improved total knee arthroplasty pain outcome when joint gap targets are achieved throughout flexion

Summary: This study aimed to determine the association between medio-lateral gap balance in extension, midflexion, and flexion with improved outcome scores at one-year post-operatively. The results showed that achieving balanced or tighter medial compartment in extension, medial laxity compared to the final insert thickness in midflexion, and a medio-lateral imbalance of less than 1.5 mm in flexion generated significantly improved KOOS pain scores at one year. Combining these balance windows resulted in further improved outcomes, with the greatest improvement observed when all three targets were satisfied.

Accuracy of different navigation systems for femoral and tibial implantation in total knee arthroplasty: a randomised comparative study

Summary: In this study, whether optical CT-free or acceleration-based navigation systems were used, there were no significant differences in implantation accuracy, proportion of outliers, postoperative range of motion, and Japanese Orthopaedic Association score for total knee arthroplasty. However, there was a superior implantation accuracy in the sagittal tibial component angle with ExactechGPS compared to KneeAlign2. Both navigation systems demonstrated clinically acceptable implantation accuracy.
