Correlation of Bone Density Values of Quantitative Computed Tomography and Hounsfield Units Measured in Native Computed Tomography in 902 Vertebral Bodies

Fabian Buenger et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine bone density using computed tomography (CT) and correlate Hounsfield units (HU) with quantitative computed tomography (QCT) values. The results showed a significant correlation between Hounsfield units and QCT values, and that calculated QCT values are independent of patient sex. Additionally, no differences were observed in the correlation of different measured levels to QCT values.

A comparison, using X-ray micro-computed tomography, of the architecture of cancellous bone from the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine using 240 vertebral bodies from 10 body donors

Guido Schroder et al.

Summary: The vertebral trabecular bone in different spinal sections varies significantly in bone volume fraction (BVF), trabecular thickness, separation, and number. Cervical vertebrae have higher BVF, trabecular number, and thickness, as well as lower separation and anisotropy compared to other sections of the spine, leading to a lower risk of fracture in the cervical spine.
