miR146a up-regulation is involved in small HA oligosaccharides-induced pro-inflammatory response in human chondrocytes

Angela Avenoso et al.

Summary: The up-regulation of miR146a in 6-mer HA-induced inflammation response may reduce the inflammatory cascade by modulating TLR-4 and NF-kB activation, which could be useful in developing new therapeutic strategies to reduce the incidence of osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Osteoporosis, fracture, osteoarthritis & sarcopenia: A systematic review of circulating microRNA association

Tania L. Jones et al.

Summary: Circulating microRNAs may be associated with age-related fracture/osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and sarcopenia, with some microRNAs potentially sharing activity between osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Results from studies were inconsistent, with evidence supporting some microRNAs having dysregulation in these diseases.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis A Review

Jeffrey N. Katz et al.

Summary: Osteoarthritis is a prevalent joint disease that can impact various joints, with risk factors including age, gender, obesity, genetics, and major joint injury. Treatment typically involves exercise, weight management, education, and medication therapy. Advanced cases may require surgical intervention for pain relief and improved function.

Knockdown of TRAF6 inhibits chondrocytes apoptosis and inflammation by suppressing the NF-κB pathway in lumbar facet joint osteoarthritis

Jiawei Jiang et al.

Summary: This study reveals the crucial role of TRAF6 in lumbar facet joint osteoarthritis (FJOA) by regulating the NF-kappa B signaling pathway and suggests that knockdown of TRAF6 may serve as a potential therapeutic strategy for FJOA.

Are functional variants of the microRNA-146a gene associated with primary knee OA? Evidence in Mexican mestizo population

Antonio Miranda-Duarte et al.

Summary: This study did not find a significant association between miR-146a gene variants and primary knee OA in Mexican mestizos. Some trends were observed in terms of gender and different disease severity levels, with the CC genotype possibly increasing the risk in females and decreasing the risk in males.

LncRNA CALML3-AS1 regulates chondrocyte apoptosis by acting as a sponge for miR-146a

Tingting Nie et al.

Summary: Chondrocyte apoptosis contributes to osteoarthritis, with miR-146a playing a critical role in this process. In this study, it was found that CALML3-AS1 may regulate chondrocyte apoptosis by acting as a sponge for miR-146a to upregulate Smad4. However, overexpression of CALML3-AS1 did not affect the expression of miR-146a, indicating a complex relationship between these molecules in osteoarthritis.

Frontier review of the roles of exosomes in osteoarthritis

Ding-Hao Liu et al.

Summary: The role of exosomes in osteoarthritis has garnered attention for its potential in providing diagnostic and monitoring value through a relatively noninvasive liquid biopsy procedure. Certain miRNAs secreted in exosomes of OA patients and exosomes derived from platelet-rich plasma have shown to induce chondrogenic gene expression in OA chondrocytes, indicating their potential applications in treating OA.

Quercetin Alleviates Osteoarthritis Progression in Rats by Suppressing Inflammation and Apoptosis via Inhibition of IRAK1/NLRP3 Signaling

Wenjun Li et al.

Summary: The study showed that quercetin can alleviate cartilage damage, suppress inflammation and cell apoptosis, and inhibit IL-10-induced rat chondrocyte injuries by blocking the IRAK1/NLRP3 signaling pathway.
