Paving the way for a better management of pain in patients with spinal cord injury: An exploratory study on the use of Functional Electric Stimulation(FES)-cycling

Rocco Salvatore Calabro et al.

Summary: This study found that lower limb functional electrical stimulation (FES) cycling can reduce the reported pain in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI), regardless of the severity of the injury or the level of pain. The results indicate that FES cycling can be used as an effective treatment option to improve pain symptoms in SCI patients.

Factors Associated With Clinical Improvement and the Disappearance of Calcifications After Ultrasound-Guided Percutaneous Lavage of Rotator Cuff Calcific Tendinopathy: A Post Hoc Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial

Nicolas Dumoulin et al.

Summary: The study found that corticosteroid injections after UGPL were associated with good clinical outcomes. Lower DASH scores, calcium extraction, and communication between calcific deposits and the subacromial bursa were associated with improved clinical evolution at 6 months. The disappearance of calcification at 3 and 12 months was more frequent in patients with created communication during the procedure, showing an association between calcification resorption and good clinical outcomes.

Electrical Stimulation to Enhance Wound Healing

Saranya B. Rajendran et al.

Summary: Electrical stimulation accelerates wound healing, particularly chronic wounds, by increasing epithelialization, fibroblast migration, and vascularity around wounds. Studies show a larger reduction in wound size and increased healing rate with ES therapy.

Pro-inflammatory effects of human apatite crystals extracted from patients suffering from calcific tendinopathy

Julien Herman et al.

Summary: The study found that human calcifications can induce an inflammatory response resulting in the production of IL-1 beta after NF-kB activation and through NLRP3 inflammasome. In some experiments, IL-1 beta induction was lower with human calcifications compared to synthetic apatite. Differences in size, shape, and protein content may explain this observation.

The conservative treatment of longstanding adductor-related groin pain syndrome: a critical and systematic review

Gian Nicola Bisciotti et al.

Summary: Longstanding adductor-related groin pain syndrome is a common issue for athletes, and conservative treatment options have varying levels of evidence and recommendations. Compression clothing therapy, manual therapy with strengthening exercise, and prolotherapy have shown the highest levels of evidence and recommendation, while other interventions require further study for confirmation of efficacy.

Imaging of calcific tendinopathy around the shoulder: usual and unusual presentations and common pitfalls

Domenico Albano et al.

Summary: Rotator cuff calcific tendinopathy (RCCT) is a common condition mainly occurring in the supraspinatus tendon, with typical imaging findings but also possible atypical presentations, including different modes of calcific deposits migration that may mimic other diseases like infectious processes or malignancies.
