Nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite in regeneration of periodontal intrabony defects: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical outcomes of using nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite (NHA) graft for periodontal intrabony lesions compared to open flap debridement (OFD) alone. The results showed that NHA graft provided better clinical outcomes in terms of clinical attachment level gain and probing pocket depth reduction compared to OFD alone. However, there were no significant benefits of NHA graft in gingival recession changes. Future research with larger samples and longer follow-up periods are warranted to further investigate the use of NHA graft in periodontal regenerative therapy.

Autologous Dentin Graft after Impacted Mandibular Third Molar Extraction to Prevent Periodontal Pocket Formation-A Split-Mouth Pilot Study

Summary: This preliminary study suggests that autologous dentin grafts can be effective in preventing periodontal defects after surgical extraction of impacted or semi-impacted lower third molars. The results show a reduction in probing pocket depth and an increase in bone gain with the use of autologous dentin grafts.

Bio-Absorption of Human Dentin-Derived Biomaterial in Sheep Critical-Size Iliac Defects

Summary: The study evaluated the bio-absorption and bone regeneration of human tooth-derived dentin scaffold, PR-DDM, in critical-size iliac defects after in vivo implantation. The morphological changes due to bio-absorption by the cellular phagocytes were comparable to the 3D micro-CT and histological images at 2 and 4 months, demonstrating that the PR-DDM block was gradually absorbed by multinucleated giant cells and regenerated bone. PR-DDM may serve as a unique scaffold for extraoral bone regeneration.

Summary: This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of Bonmaker ATB powder in alveolar ridge preservation post tooth extraction. Results showed moderate horizontal alveolar dimension loss, increased vertical defect fill, and histological analysis revealed effective remodelling with newly formed bone around ATB particles. Further research is needed to explore the full potential of ATB for long-term stability in post-extraction sites.
