Review of practice & policy strategies for managing digital communication and ICT use in Australian universities

Rachael E. Potter et al.

Summary: This paper examines the practices and policies for managing ICTs and promoting healthy work environments in higher education. The study utilized interviews with HR and Wellbeing personnel from Australian universities and a review of policy documents. It found that ICT management entails balancing flexibility and boundaries, as well as expectations of responsiveness. The analysis of policy documents revealed gaps in addressing digital communication, with a focus on privacy/security and media representation. Recommendations are made for policy and practice improvement, and further research is suggested to assess the impact of digital communication management strategies on worker wellbeing and work practice outcomes.

The Interaction Effect of Crisis Communication and Social Support on The Emotional Exhaustion of University Employees during the COVID-19 Crisis

Peerayuth Charoensukmongkol et al.

Summary: Formal communication from management is important during a crisis, but the moderating role of social support in reducing uncertainties is not well known. This study examines the impact of crisis communication on perceived uncertainties and emotional exhaustion among employees of private international universities affected by the COVID-19 crisis, as well as the moderating effect of social support. The results show that perceived uncertainties mediate the negative association between crisis communication and emotional exhaustion, and coworker support moderates the association between crisis communication and perceived uncertainties.

Technostress inhibitors and creators and their impacts on university teachers' work performance in higher education

Lu Li et al.

Summary: This study found that involvement facilitation and technical support have significant inhibitory effects on technostress creators, while literacy facilitation may stimulate the development of technostress creators. Techno-complexity and techno-insecurity have negative impacts on university teachers' work performance, while techno-overload is positively associated with work performance. Facilitation of literacy and involvement have positive effects on university teachers' work performance. Comparing young and senior teachers, literacy facilitation may have a greater impact on technostress creators for senior teachers. No gender difference in technostress among university teachers was observed.
