Spatial modelling of accidents risk caused by driver drowsiness with data mining algorithms

Farbod Farhangi et al.

Summary: In this study, the risk of accidents caused by driver drowsiness in Qazvin province, Iran, was modeled using decision tree, random forest, and support-vector regression algorithms in a GIS environment. Seven spatial criteria were selected as effective criteria in modeling, with speed limit identified as the most important criterion for modeling. The random forest model showed the best overall performance with an AUC value of 0.904.

Analysis of incidence of air quality on human health: a case study on the relationship between pollutant concentrations and respiratory diseases in Kennedy, Bogota

Nidia Isabel Molina-Gomez et al.

Summary: Forecasting factors that pose risks to people's health and their geographical distribution could prevent thousands of deaths associated with air pollution each year. By analyzing the primary socioeconomic and environmental conditions causing symptoms associated with respiratory diseases, geostatistical and machine learning tools were used to identify hot spots for potential RD occurrences. The application of these tools allows municipalities to anticipate environmental health situations and reduce the cost of respiratory disease treatments, particularly in densely populated areas with high levels of air pollution.

How do low wind speeds and high levels of air pollution support the spread of COVID-19?

Mario Coccia

Summary: This study suggests that cities with high wind speed tend to have fewer COVID-19 infections, while cities in hinterland zones with low wind speed and high air pollution levels tend to have more infections. High concentrations of air pollutants combined with low wind speeds may promote the spread of the virus in polluted air.

Asthma-prone areas modeling using a machine learning model

Seyed Vahid Razavi-Termeh et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine asthma-prone areas in Tehran, Iran using environmental and spatial factors. Analyzing 872 locations of children with asthma and 13 environmental factors, it was found that distance to parks and streets, as well as PM2.5 and PM10, had the greatest impact on asthma occurrence. The RF model showed good accuracy in predicting asthma occurrence with an AUC of 0.987 and 0.921 for training and testing data, respectively.

Towards real-time kinetic monitoring of wastewater treatment: A case study of sunlight and ozone treatment of unconcentrated wastewater using flow NMR

Bing Wu et al.

Summary: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is a valuable tool for monitoring complex organic compounds in wastewater. This study demonstrates the potential of online NMR for understanding wastewater treatment processes without the need for pre-concentration. The research suggests that a combination of ozone and sunlight is effective in removing organics from wastewater, and highlights the complexity of chemical reactions involved in wastewater treatment.

Effects of air pollution in Spatio-temporal modeling of asthma-prone areas using a machine learning model

Seyed Vahid Razavi-Termeh et al.

Summary: Industrialization and urbanization have worsened air pollution, impacting public health and asthma. This study modeled the spatial-temporal patterns of asthma in Tehran, Iran using machine learning, finding that PM2.5 had the most significant impact on asthma occurrence. Evaluation results suggested that asthma is more likely to occur in autumn.

Seyed Vahid Razavi-Termeh et al.

Summary: By using machine learning algorithms, a risk mapping of COVID-19 in Tehran was prepared. The results indicated that the central and eastern regions of Tehran are at higher risk, with public transportation stations and pharmacies being the most correlated with the location of COVID-19 patients. The incompatibility in distribution between pharmacies and banks contributes to the spread of COVID-19 in Tehran.
