Identifying hydrothermally altered rocks using ASTER satellite imageries in Eastern Anti-Atlas of Morocco: a case study from Imiter silver mine

Youssef Atif et al.

Summary: The Imiter silver mine in the Eastern Anti-Atlas metallogenic province of Eastern Morocco is identified as a world-class silver ore deposit with potential for undiscovered silver mineralisation through remote sensing techniques. This study successfully applied Crosta, band ratios and MTMF methods to analyse ASTER remote-sensing data, identifying several high prospective zones for further exploration of hydrothermal ore deposits. Verification of alteration zones and sulphide mineralisation was conducted through GPS survey, thin and polish sections analysis, XRD, and geochemical survey.

Landsat-7 and ASTER remote sensing satellite imagery for identification of iron skarn mineralization in metamorphic regions

Hooman Moradpour et al.

Summary: This study utilized satellite remote sensing imagery to map alteration zones and geological structures associated with iron skarn mineralization in the Galali region, Iran. The results indicate that propylitic alteration zone and specific geological structures are typically associated with iron skarn mineralization.

The Van Microplate: A New Microcontinent at the Junction of Iran, Turkey, and Armenia

Hossein Azizi et al.

Summary: Magmatic activity in northwestern Iran occurred during three main intervals, with the last phase showing similarities to postcollisional magmatism. The Van microplate and surrounding ocean played a crucial role in the evolution of magmatic activity in the region since the Cretaceous.

Early Miocene Post-collision Andesite in the Takab Area, NW Iran

Hossein Azizi et al.

Summary: Research in the Takab area of NW Iran reveals Miocene magmatic rocks with ages of 18 to 15 Ma, including lava flows, subvolcanic rocks, and lavas interbedded with sedimentary layers. Chemical analysis shows that the rocks are mostly andesite with low MgO, Ni, Cr, Ti, Nb, and Ta contents, and high Li, Rb, K, Ba, and light rare earth elements. Different groups of rocks have varying Sr-87/Sr-86 ratios and ε(Nd)(t) values, indicating different levels of involvement of supra-crustal domains in their evolution. The collision and plate evolution have led to changes in crustal thickness and the development of shallow-basin sedimentary rocks in the region.

Shear-Related Gold Ores in the Wadi Hodein Shear Belt, South Eastern Desert of Egypt: Analysis of Remote Sensing, Field and Structural Data

Mohamed Abd El-Wahed et al.

Summary: This study utilized space-borne multispectral and radar data to comprehensively map geological contacts, lithologies, and structural elements controlling gold-bearing quartz veins in the Wadi Hodein area in Egypt. The results of image processing techniques were then fused with field observations to generate a potentiality map, revealing the formation and evolution of gold-mineralized shear zones in response to tectonic activities. The coincidence of shear zones, hydrothermal alteration, and crosscutting dikes in the study area could be considered as a model criterion in exploration for new gold targets.

Formation and evolution of the calcic-magnesian Saheb Fe (Cu) skarn deposit from the Sanandaj-Sirjan Belt, NW Iran: Evidence for multistage boiling in episodes of magnetite saturation

Saeid Baghban et al.

Summary: The Saheb Fe (Cu) skarn deposit is located at the Northwestern end of the Sanandaj-Sirjan Zone, with four main stages of skarn formation recognized. The deposition of iron orebodies was largely influenced by two boiling events related to fluid immiscibility, causing phase separation of hydrothermal fluids and leading to the precipitation of disseminated iron ore. Mixing with meteoric fluids and shifting in pH values could also play a role in alteration and mineralization.
