Removal of fluoroquinolone antibiotics using actinia-shaped lignin-based adsorbents: Role of the length and distribution of branched-chains

Boqiang Gao et al.

Summary: A series of actinia-shaped lignin-based adsorbents were designed and fabricated for the removal of ofloxacin and ciprofloxacin from water. Experimental and calculation results indicated that hydrogen bonding contributes more than electrostatic attraction to adsorption. The distribution density of the branched chains was more efficient in promoting adsorption than the chain length.

Fate of antibiotics during membrane separation followed by physical-chemical treatment processes

Fubin Yin et al.

Summary: Membrane separation technology is widely used to obtain clean permeate and concentrated nutrients from biogas digested slurry, but the removal of antibiotics during the steps of combined membrane separation processing remains poorly understood. Experimental results showed different antibiotic rejection efficiencies for different membrane processes, and additional treatments are needed for efficient antibiotic removal. Fine halloysite has good adsorption capacity for antibiotics, while P25 can effectively degrade antibiotics during photocatalysis.
