Deep Brain Stimulation of the Nucleus Accumbens in Severe Enduring Anorexia Nervosa: A Pilot Study

Jessica C. Scaife et al.

Summary: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a severe psychiatric disorder with limited effective treatments. This study investigated the safety and efficacy of deep brain stimulation for AN. The results showed that some patients responded to the treatment with significant improvements in eating disorder psychopathology, indicating potential benefits of deep brain stimulation for AN.

EEG and MEG primers for tracking DBS network effects

Vladimir Litvak et al.

Summary: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an effective treatment for neurological and psychiatric disorders, involving implantation of stimulating electrodes followed by chronic stimulation. Combining EEG/MEG recordings can provide complementary information to characterize brain networks targeted by DBS, with potential biomarkers for guiding clinical decisions and optimizing DBS effects. Through further research, network biomarkers may facilitate the integration of circuit physiology into clinical practice, especially with the development of closed-loop stimulators.

A Systematic Review of Electrophysiological Findings in Binge-Purge Eating Disorders: A Window Into Brain Dynamics

Joao C. Hiluy et al.

Summary: EEG studies in individuals with BP-ED have revealed impairments in attentional processes and dysfunctional brain networks. However, limitations such as the small number of studies, heterogeneity in samples and paradigms, and inadequate assessment of neuropsychological parameters need to be addressed in future research to fully understand the neurobiological features of BP-ED.
