The relationship between childhood stress and distinct stages of dynamic behavior monitoring in adults: neural and behavioral correlates

Jianhui Wu et al.

Summary: Childhood adversity is a significant risk factor for emotional and cognitive disorders in adulthood, affecting controlled attention and error-related behavioral adjustments. The dimensions of deprivation and threat in childhood adversity have distinct effects on different stages of behavior monitoring.

Error-related negativity predicts increases in anxiety in a sample of clinically anxious female children and adolescents over 2 years

Alexandria Meyer et al.

Summary: This study investigated whether error negativity (Ne) or error-related negativity (ERN) could be used as a prognostic indicator for predicting increases in anxiety symptoms among clinically anxious children and adolescents. The results showed that an increased Ne/ERN at baseline predicted increases in total anxiety symptoms 2 years later, specifically in the domains of generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and harm avoidance/perfectionism. These findings suggest that Ne/ERN can delineate specific risk trajectories even among individuals with clinical anxiety disorders, providing an important extension of previous work.

Negative Life Events as Predictors of Anxiety Outcomes: An Examination of Event Type

Elizabeth P. Casline et al.

Summary: The study found that greater exposure to negative life events is associated with increased risk of child anxiety disorders. Specifically, a higher number of NLEs in the academic domain significantly increased the odds of having an anxiety disorder at follow-up.
