An Intravital Microscopy Toolbox to Study Mammary Gland Dynamics from Cellular Level to Organ Scale

Hendrik A. Messal et al.

Summary: The architecture of the mouse mammary gland undergoes dynamic remodeling driven by distinct subsets of mammary epithelial cells during different developmental stages. In vivo imaging strategies have been developed to quantify the dynamics of mammary gland growth and remodeling at single-cell level, revealing the contribution of single cells to ductal morphogenesis and estrous-driven remodeling. Despite short-term dynamic changes, the long-term morphology of the mammary gland remains stable.

Longitudinal high-resolution imaging through a flexible intravital imaging window

Guillaume Jacquemin et al.

Summary: The study introduces a silicone-based imaging window for long-term, longitudinal intravital microscopy in mice. This low-cost device represents a significant technological advancement, allowing intravital imaging in diverse contexts in higher organisms and opening new avenues for in vivo imaging of soft and fragile tissues that were previously unattainable.
