High-frequency rTMS over the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex on chronic and provoked pain: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Xianwei Che et al.

Summary: The study found that high-frequency rTMS stimulation of the DLPFC has significant short-term analgesic effects on neuropathic pain. There is also an overall pain reduction in the midterm and long term, as well as significant analgesic effect on provoked pain following HF-rTMS over the DLPFC.

Comparing the Impact of Multi-Session Left Dorsolateral Prefrontal and Primary Motor Cortex Neuronavigated Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (nrTMS) on Chronic Pain Patients

Sascha Freigang et al.

Summary: The study found that repetitive transcranial stimulation (rTMS) targeting the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) was more effective in treating chronic refractory pain compared to stimulation of the left motor cortex (M1). The DLPFC group showed significant improvements in pain perception, health-related quality of life, and mental state, while the M1 group did not show significant improvements. Further research is needed to determine the optimal cortical target sites and stimulation parameters.
