How to Change Young Children's Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior: Mechanisms of Behavior Change in the INFANT Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial

Kylie D. Hesketh et al.

Summary: Understanding mechanisms of behavior change is crucial for designing effective interventions. This study found that improving mothers' behavioral knowledge had a significant impact on reducing children's TV viewing time in early childhood, while mechanisms to increase physical activity levels remain unclear in this age group.

Mechanisms of scaling up: combining a realist perspective and systems analysis to understand successfully scaled interventions

Harriet Koorts et al.

Summary: This study analyzed seven interventions aimed at nutrition, physical activity, or a combination of both, in Australia from 2010 to 2018. It identified 63 pathways linking context, mechanism, and outcomes for successful scale up, highlighting 36 contexts, 8 key outcomes, and 53 common mechanisms. The mechanisms identified in this study could potentially be leveraged in future scale up efforts to positively influence intervention scalability and sustainability.

A systematic review of economic evaluations of web-based or telephone-delivered interventions for preventing overweight and obesity and/or improving obesity-related behaviors

Vicki Brown et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review of economic evaluations of obesity prevention interventions with a telehealth or eHealth component, finding that the evidence supporting the cost-effectiveness of these interventions is currently inconclusive. More research is needed to explore the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of telehealth and eHealth interventions for obesity prevention.

Changing parental feeding practices through web-based interventions: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Ana Isabel Gomes et al.

Summary: The study found that current web-based parent interventions for promoting children's healthy eating mainly target parents of young children with small, non-clinical samples, and are mostly theory-based. The programs vary in intervention type and duration, with a focus on parental feeding practices such as Restriction, Pressure to eat, and Food availability/accessibility. While most programs had small effects on parental practices, Food availability/accessibility showed benefits for the intervention group in all follow-up measurements.

A systems approach to scale-up for population health improvement

Harriet Koorts et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the current conceptualizations and approaches used in scaling up in public health, proposing a new perspective that shifts focus from interventions to achieving desired population-level health outcomes. The authors argue that adopting a systems-orientated scale-up approach could enhance intervention implementation, sustainability, and population health impact for certain health behaviors.
