Summary: Studies show that refugee adults are more likely to have chronic diseases compared to non-refugee immigrant adults, and have a higher risk of developing diabetes. Common chronic diseases among Iraqi, Somali, and Bhutanese refugee adults include diabetes and hypertension. Therefore, clinicians should screen and evaluate for chronic conditions during the early resettlement period.
