Predicting the compressive strength of green concretes using Harris hawks optimization-based data-driven methods

Emadaldin Mohammadi Golafshani et al.

Summary: This study developed a practical tool for measuring the compressive strength of concrete using data-driven techniques, with MLNN model developed by hybridized training algorithm showing the best performance. The results indicate that cement, coarse and fine aggregate are the top three variables influencing the CS, while slag, fly ash, and concrete age are the least effective variables.

Mechanical properties and uniaxial compressive stress-strain behavior of fully recycled aggregate concrete

Yuxiang Tang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a fully recycled aggregate concrete (FRAC) prepared by replacing natural aggregates and partially replacing cement with recycled materials. The addition of recycled materials has a negative effect on concrete strength and shows little effect on the ascending branch of stress-strain curves but influences the descending branch. The elastic modulus decreases due to the incorporation of recycled aggregates and recycled powder.

Direct Shear Strength Prediction for Precast Concrete Joints Using the Machine Learning Method

Tongxu Liu et al.

Summary: This study aims to establish an accurate and reliable prediction model for the direct shear strength (DSS) of precast concrete joints (PCJs) using support vector regression (SVR) algorithm. A new correlation matrix-based feature selection method was proposed, and three SVR models with different feature combinations were trained. The results show that the SVR algorithm can accurately and reliably predict the DSS of PCJs, and the proposed feature selection method improves the prediction performance of the SVR model. The influence of each input parameter on the DSS of PCJs is recognized and can provide useful information for future research on predicting the DSS of PCJs.

On the Use of Machine Learning Models for Prediction of Compressive Strength of Concrete: Influence of Dimensionality Reduction on the Model Performance

Zhi Wan et al.

Summary: This study evaluates and compares four machine learning models and different feature inputs for predicting concrete compressive strength, demonstrating that SVR, XGBoost, and ANN can make relatively accurate predictions. PCA dimensionality reduction has a positive influence on the performance of the SVR model, while it has a negative impact on both the performance and running time of the XGBoost and ANN models.

Summary: Buildings account for 23% of the total CO2 emissions from global economic activities, with China contributing nearly 41%. Carbon accounting is essential for supporting an efficient low-carbon economic system. This article proposes a model for calculating the carbon cost of buildings and examines its relationship with the environmental damage cost of carbon emissions.
