The connectome predicts resting-state functional connectivity across the Drosophila brain

Summary: Anatomical connectivity can constrain the function and computation of a neural circuit. Previous studies have shown this in small, well-defined neural circuits. Using data from the Drosophila connectome and whole-brain imaging, it was found that there is a strong relationship between structural and functional connectivity in the central brain, with some regions showing tight correspondence while others rely more on indirect connections. Similar features of structural and functional networks in Drosophila and mammalian cortex suggest general principles governing brain structure and function.
