Enhanced aerosol particle growth sustained by high continental chlorine emission in India

Sachin S. Gunthe et al.

Summary: The study suggests that half of the reduced visibility in cities in India is attributed to local emission of gas-phase hydrochloric acid from waste-burning and industry. The high concentration of hydrochloric acid contributes to haze and fog formation, impacting the economy and human health. Identifying and regulating gaseous hydrochloric acid emissions could be critical to improving visibility and human health in India.
