Pachychoroid: current concepts on clinical features and pathogenesis

Veronica Castro-Navarro et al.

Summary: Pachychoroid is a newly described phenotype in retinal disorders, characterized by the presence of hypertrophic or congested vessels under an area of reduced or absent choriocapillaris. Understanding the important features and pathogenesis of disorders within the pachychoroid spectrum may aid in patient management.

Ten-year changes in visual acuity at baseline and at 2 years after treatment in a Japanese population with age-related macular degeneration

Tomoko Sawada et al.

Summary: The baseline BCVA in treatment-naive nAMD patients tended to improve over a 10-year period. BCVA at 1 year improved during the anti-VEGF era, while BCVA at 2 years improved in patients treated in 2012 or later. Additionally, CRST decreased each year during the study period.

Variation of vortex veins at the horizontal watershed in normal eyes

Junki Hoshino et al.

Summary: Vascular pattern of choroidal vortex veins at horizontal watershed zone in normal eyes was assessed using OCT. Venous anastomosis and deviation were frequently observed, with greater CCT in eyes with anastomosis indicating subclinical vortex vein congestion.

Pulsation of anastomotic vortex veins in pachychoroid spectrum diseases

Hidetaka Matsumoto et al.

Summary: The study suggests a possible link between pachychoroid spectrum diseases and vortex vein congestion, leading to altered vortex vein hemodynamics which affects the drainage pathways of the choroid.

Chronic choriocapillaris ischemia in dilated vortex vein region in pachychoroid neovasculopathy

Hidetaka Matsumoto et al.

Summary: In this study, choroidal congestion in PNV patients was assessed using multimodal imaging. The findings showed an overlap between areas of choriocapillaris filling delay, dilated outer choroidal vessels, CNV, and RPE atrophy. The results suggest that chronic choriocapillaris ischemia due to vortex vein congestion may lead to CNV development and RPE atrophy in eyes with PNV.
