Magnetic nanocellulose from Cyperus rotundas grass in the absorptive removal of rare earth element cerium (III): Toxicity studies and interpretation

Tasrin Shahnaz et al.

Summary: In this study, cellulose was extracted from Cyperus rotundas to create magnetic grass nano cellulose (MGNC) for adsorbing Cerium (Ce(III)). The optimized experimental data fitted well with Langmuir model, showing high adsorption capacity for Ce (III). Overall, the study demonstrated the efficient use of MGNC in removing Cerium from wastewater.

Recovery of rare earth elements (Lu, Y) by adsorption using functionalized SBA-15 and MIL-101 (Cr)

Seongchul Ryu et al.

Summary: Due to the increasing application of rare earth elements in the green energy sector, they have become precious commodities in the international market. Modified SBA-15 and chromium-based MOFs show high adsorption capacities for Lu and Y, with the MOF demonstrating superior ion-exchange capabilities. The adsorbents display high structural stability, retaining over 90% of adsorption capacity after multiple cycles.

A critical review of the recovery of rare earth elements from wastewater by algae for resources recycling technologies

Ying Cao et al.

Summary: Rare earth elements (REEs) have become important strategic resources in the 21st century due to global supply crises caused by increasing demand in the high-tech industry. Algae-based technology is considered a promising method for recovering REEs, offering high efficiency, low cost, and wide applicability. Future studies are suggested to further develop algae-based REEs recovery technology and make it commercially viable.

Selective adsorption of palladium(II) from aqueous solution using epichlorohydrin crosslinked polyethylenimine-chitin adsorbent: Batch and column studies

Zhuo Wang et al.

Summary: Selective adsorption of palladium (Pd(II)) from a multi-metal solution was achieved using pH-dependent selective adsorbent PEI-chitin. The adsorption capacity of PEI-chitin for Pd(II) was higher than other commercial adsorbents, with faster adsorption kinetics observed. In column experiments, PEI-chitin demonstrated good selectivity and regenerability for Pd(II).
