Efficacy of pterostilbene suppression of postharvest gray mold in table grapes and potential mechanisms

Dandan Xu et al.

Summary: The study shows that 0.25 g/L pterostilbene can suppress the development of gray mold in table grapes. Fluorescent staining indicates that disease suppression with pterostilbene is mediated through loss of plasma membrane integrity. Electron microscopy reveals that pterostilbene inhibits B. cinerea by altering the morphology of the hyphae and conidiophores, leading to destruction of the plasma membrane and organelles. Additionally, quantitative real-time PCR highlights gene modulation by pterostilbene, overexpressing genes associated with laccase production and cellular damage on B. cinerea, along with increased laccase activity.

Appraisal of Chitosan-Gum Arabic-Coated Bipolymeric Nanocarriers for Efficient Dye Removal and Eradication of the Plant Pathogen Botrytis cinerea

Vinit Raj et al.

Summary: This study developed bipolymeric drug delivery system using chitosan-gum arabic-coated liposome nanoparticles for removing dyes from textile wastewater and combating antifungal resistance in plant pathogens. The nanoparticles showed high dye removal efficiency and antifungal effects on Botrytis cinerea, opening a new avenue for designing polymeric nanoparticles as adsorbents and antifungal agents for environmental and agriculture remediation.

Plasma Hsp90 levels in patients with systemic sclerosis and relation to lung and skin involvement: a cross-sectional and longitudinal study

Hana Storkanova et al.

Summary: According to the study, plasma levels of Hsp90 are increased in patients with systemic sclerosis compared to healthy controls, and are associated with increased inflammatory activity, worsened lung function, and extent of skin involvement in patients with diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis. In patients with systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease treated with cyclophosphamide, baseline Hsp90 levels can predict changes in DLCO over 12 months of therapy.

Toxicological Evaluation of Piceatannol, Pterostilbene, and ε-Viniferin for Their Potential Use in the Food Industry: A Review

Concepcion Medrano-Padial et al.

Summary: The application of stilbenes in the food industry is gaining attention for their biological activities. However, the safety of compounds like piceatannol, pterostilbene, and epsilon-viniferin needs to be confirmed before commercialization. Studies have shown cytotoxic effects, but in vitro genotoxic studies are lacking, and in vivo tests are also needed for authorization as food additives.
