Evaluation of magnetic resonance imaging artifacts caused by fixed orthodontic CAD/CAM retainers-an in vitro study

Christoph Roser et al.

Summary: This study quantified MRI artifacts caused by CAD/CAM retainers, showing that titanium or nickel-titanium CAD/CAM retainers may not significantly impair image quality in head/neck and dental MRI compared to Twistflex, which produced larger artifacts.

MRI following scoliosis surgery? An analysis of implant heating, displacement, torque, and susceptibility artifacts

Andreas Heinrich et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the MRI compatibility of long pedicle-screw-rod constructs at 1.5T and 3T using ASTM standardized methods. Results showed that maximum heating in the magnetic field was only 1.3K, with factors such as magnetic field strength, implant length, and presence of cross-links influencing the heating significantly. Additionally, susceptibility artifacts were found to potentially limit the diagnostic value of MRI following scoliosis surgery.
