Amniotic fluid glucose level in PPROM pregnancies: a glance at the old friend

Marian Kacerovsky et al.

Summary: This study investigated the amniotic fluid glucose levels in pregnant women with preterm prelabor rupture of membranes (PPROM) and its association with intra-amniotic inflammation. The results showed that the presence of intra-amniotic inflammation was associated with lower amniotic fluid glucose levels. A concentration of 10 mg/dL was identified as the optimal level for identifying intra-amniotic inflammation in PPROM pregnancies.

Intra-amniotic infection and sterile intra-amniotic inflammation are associated with elevated concentrations of cervical fluid interleukin-6 in women with spontaneous preterm labor with intact membranes

Jaroslav Stranik et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the concentration of IL-6 in cervical fluid in women with PTL. Results showed that women with intra-amniotic infection and sterile intra-amniotic inflammation had higher concentrations of IL-6 in cervical fluid compared to those without intra-amniotic inflammation, indicating an association between intra-amniotic inflammation and elevated IL-6 levels in cervical fluid.

Intra-Amniotic Infection and Sterile Intra-Amniotic Inflammation in Cervical Insufficiency with Prolapsed Fetal Membranes: Clinical Implications

Martina Chalupska et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the rates of two phenotypes of intra-amniotic inflammation and their outcomes in women with cervical insufficiency with prolapsed fetal membranes. Both intra-amniotic infection and sterile intra-amniotic inflammation were associated with worse pregnancy outcomes, with the latter being more common.

Cervical Gardnerella vaginalis in women with preterm prelabor rupture of membranes

Marian Kacerovsky et al.

Summary: This study found that the presence of cervical Gardnerella vaginalis was associated with microbial invasion of the amniotic cavity (MIAC) in pregnancies with preterm prelabor rupture of membrane (PPROM), particularly without the presence of intra-amniotic inflammation (IAI).

Summary: Elevated FcgammaBP concentrations may predict intra-amniotic infection in patients with PPROM and PTL, but this phenomenon is only observed in cervical fluid in patients with PPROM.

Bacteria in the amniotic fluid without inflammation: early colonization vs. contamination

Eunjung Jung et al.

Summary: The study found that patients with microorganisms present in amniotic fluid but without inflammation had similar perinatal outcomes to those without microorganisms or inflammation, indicating that this condition is likely due to contamination of the specimen during collection or laboratory processing, rather than early colonization or infection.
