Potential use of entomopathogenic nematodes against the soil dwelling stages of onion thrips, Thrips tabaci Lindeman: Laboratory, greenhouse and field trials

Sehrish Gulzar et al.

Summary: The study found that EPNs including H. bacteriophora, S. feltiae, S. carpocapsae, S. riobrave, and H. indica had a significant impact on different developmental stages of onion thrips, with the prepupal stage being the most susceptible. The results suggest that EPNs could be a promising addition to integrated pest management programs for controlling onion thrips in onion production systems.

Combined Effect of Entomopathogens against Thrips tabaci Lindeman (Thysanoptera: Thripidae): Laboratory, Greenhouse and Field Trials

Sehrish Gulzar et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the combined application of entomopathogenic nematodes and fungi against different soil dwelling stages of Thrips tabaci, resulting in greater mortality and enhanced plant growth. The pre-pupal stage was the most susceptible, and the combined application of pathogens significantly reduced insect populations, especially in the early developmental stages.

Virulence of Entomopathogenic Nematodes to Pupae of Frankliniella fusca (Thysanoptera:Thripidae)

Sehrish Gulzar et al.

Summary: The study found that entomopathogenic nematodes have the potential to suppress Frankliniella fusca, with Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (FL1-1) showing the highest virulence among the nematode species tested. This suggests that EPNs could be further explored for biocontrol potential within an integrated pest management context, particularly for the soil dwelling stage of F. fusca.

Field and laboratory evaluations of different botanical insecticides for the control of Dactylopius opuntiae (Cockerell) on cactus pear in Morocco

Chaimae Ramdani et al.

Summary: In laboratory conditions, black soap at 60 g/l and Capsicum annuum fruit extract at 10% showed high mortality rates against D. opuntiae adult females and nymphs. In field conditions, the combination of black soap at 60 g/l and C. annuum extract at 200 g/l was the most effective in controlling the pest. Double application of black soap at 60 g/l over a 3-day spray interval significantly increased mortality rates of D. opuntiae adult females. These biodegradable products could be a safe alternative to chemical insecticides for pest control.
